What to establish before troubleshooting

ControlNet coax faults can affect one node, a contiguous group, a redundant channel, or an entire link depending on tap, trunk, terminator, repeater, and grounding location.

Preserve module and channel indicators before touching BNC connections, taps, or terminators.

Map the installed trunk in physical order and keep scheduled-connection faults separate from physical media faults.

Abbreviated worked example

Example: Channel A is intermittent while Channel B stays healthy

A redundant ControlNet installation reports recurring Channel A errors on several adjacent nodes.

  1. 1Capture A/B indicators and module diagnostics across the affected physical span.
  2. 2Compare the two channel routes, terminators, taps, connector work, grounding contacts, and recent cabinet maintenance.
  3. 3Repair the proven Channel A media defect and verify both channels remain stable through the original operating condition.

Result: The redundant channel identifies a media-specific boundary without changing the schedule or replacing healthy modules.

Caution: Disconnecting coax or removing termination can disrupt an entire segment; coordinate the outage and process state.
