What to establish before troubleshooting
A drive fault code is a starting point; the trip context, fault history, command source, reference source, motor data, I/O state, network state, and load condition determine the actual cause.
Preserve the modified parameter group and fault history before factory reset, download, or replacement.
Separate line power, DC bus, motor circuit, control wiring, communications, parameterization, and mechanical load as individual boundaries.
Abbreviated worked example
Example: replacement drive powers up but will not start
A PowerFlex 525 replacement has no active fault, yet the motor does not run from the PLC.
- 1Verify the safe motor state and capture motor nameplate plus the old drive's parameter backup.
- 2Prove start command source, speed reference source, digital input state, network connection, and stop permissives.
- 3Apply only the reviewed motor and application parameters, then perform a controlled uncoupled or low-risk test where permitted.
Result: The missing command-source or reference configuration is corrected without indiscriminate parameter copying.
Caution: A drive can start when a command source or stop circuit is restored; follow the site energy-control and commissioning plan.
